Desktop App
Axene Workspace on macOS, Windows, and Linux with notifications, badges, and auto-update.
The desktop app puts Axene Workspace in a real OS window with the things a browser tab cannot do: system notifications, an unread badge on the dock or taskbar, mailto: handling, and automatic updates. It is a thin shell around the hosted web app, so it is always the same Workspace you use in the browser, with no separate release lag for features.
Download
Get the app from axene.io/download:
| Platform | Package |
|---|---|
| macOS | .dmg |
| Windows | .exe installer |
| Linux | .AppImage or .deb |
Builds are not yet signed with an Apple Developer ID or a Windows certificate, so Gatekeeper and SmartScreen may warn on first launch. The download page includes the current instructions for opening the app the first time.
Signing in and staying signed in
The app uses exactly the same sign-in as the web: email and password, Google, GitHub, magic link, and 2FA all work unchanged, because the app loads workspace.axene.io directly. OAuth popups open inside the app; every other external link opens in your system browser.
Your session persists between launches, so after the first sign-in the app opens straight into your mail. Signing out works the same as on the web, from the account menu.
Updates
The app checks for updates 10 seconds after launch and every 4 hours after that. It never downloads silently; it asks first.
- Windows and Linux: when an update is available, accept the prompt and the app downloads it in the background. It installs when you quit, or immediately if you choose to restart.
- macOS: in-app installation requires an Apple-signed build, which ours are not yet, so the app instead offers to open axene.io/download. Grab the latest version there; the installer updates the app in place.
You can also check manually at any time from the app menu.
Notifications and unread badge
New-mail notifications come through your operating system's notification center, so they respect Focus modes, Do Not Disturb, and per-app notification settings. The unread count appears as a badge on the dock icon (macOS) and the taskbar icon (Windows).
If you are not seeing notifications, check the OS settings first: System Settings > Notifications on macOS, Settings > System > Notifications on Windows.
mailto: and deep links
You can set Axene Workspace as your system's default email application. Clicking a mailto: link anywhere on your machine then opens a Workspace compose window with the recipient filled in. The app also registers the axene:// scheme for deep links into specific screens.
Offline
The app needs a connection to load your mail. If the network drops, it shows an offline screen and reconnects automatically as soon as the connection returns; you will not be signed out.
Uninstalling
Uninstall like any other application: drag the app to the Trash on macOS, use Apps > Installed apps on Windows, or remove the package on Linux. Your mail lives on the server, so uninstalling removes nothing from your account.
